At Burning Man, cameras are discouraged, unless you have explicit permission. Thankfully, we did. With official press access and the trust of the community, NOMAD was granted the rare opportunity to film on the Playa, capturing something more than the spectacle: the soul of the people who come here.
This collection of intimate video portraits was created for our feature documentary Voices of Freedom, a film exploring the meaning of freedom across the United States. Naturally, Burning Man became a key chapter. Where else does the spirit of radical self-expression, communal creation, and spiritual liberation burn so brightly?
Each of these interviews is a moment of presence : people reflecting in the dust, sharing what brought them here, what they’ve found, and what they’re becoming. In a place where there is no audience, only participants, we asked them: What does freedom mean to you?
The result is a living archive of the Burning Man ethos, one that echoes the very mission of NOMAD: to offer a space - physical, digital, and spiritual - where art, truth, and transformation are not only possible, but expected.
